WHY MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS AREN'T VERY SMART

We’ve all heard of SMART goals - that we should make our goals (and New Years resolutions) Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely.

But this year is different. I’m less worried about WHAT I’m going to achieve, and instead, I’m focusing on how I want to FEEL each day as I hustle for what I want.

Last year I kicked some major goals both professionally and personally, which was great. But the path to get there felt unnecessarily ridden with stress and anxiety. I hurried from goal post to goal post, and in the rush, lost a whole lot of the joy inherent in both the challenge and the milestones.

For many ambitious, driven professionals, motivation to achieve our goals is not the main challenge. The main challenge is actually enjoying the process, and acknowledging our own wins along the way.

So instead of a checklist, my ‘goals’ this year are simple: I’m here to acknowledge the wins and to be gentle with myself through the setbacks. But most of all, I’m here to bring joy to every step of the journey.
